Give the AI your pages, tabs and files

4 min · The AI chat and the agent

An AI answer is only as good as what it can read. Minda makes it easy to hand over exactly the right pages and files, and nothing else.

The page on screen

The This page chip in the chat box sends the page you are looking at along with your message. It is off until you press it, so the AI never reads a page you didn't mean to share. With it on, the box says Ask about this page….

From the address bar you can also pick Ask about this page, and on any page you can select text, right-click and choose Ask AI about it.

More tabs, pictures and screenshots

The + button in the chat box offers:

  • Add pictures, or paste or drop them into the message. Up to 20 a message.
  • Take a screenshot (Ctrl+Shift+S): drag over any part of the window and ask about it.
  • Send these tabs too: tick your other open tabs to send them with the message.

The @ menu

Type @ in the chat box to pull in more:

  • Tabs, or all the tabs of your workspace at once
  • Notes you keep in Minda
  • Saved pages, after you type a couple of letters
  • Files: Attach a file, such as a PDF, Word or Excel file
  • Calendar: your next 7 days, once a calendar is connected in Settings → Connectors
  • Video transcripts of tabs that have them

You can also drag a tab from the tab strip into the chat to send it, or drag in files, links and text.

What it can read

Pictures, PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, EPUB, text, Markdown, CSV, JSON, XML, HTML, and code or config files, up to 50 MB a document. Documents are read on your computer, and the text goes to the model you picked. Hover an attached chip to see where it will be sent.

Research mode for big questions

When one page isn't enough, open the chat's Modes menu and turn on Research. The AI plans, searches the web, reads many sources and writes a report with numbered sources, citing only what it actually read. Save the result as a PDF, a Word file or slides. Research takes longer and uses more model calls than a normal reply.

Good habits

  • Send the one page that matters, not ten. A focused question on the right page beats a vague one on everything.
  • Say what you want back: a table of prices with the seller and date, three bullets, a draft reply.
  • Check the sources. A research report numbers them so you can open each one.

Quiz

  1. How does the AI read the page you are looking at?
  2. What do you type in the chat box to add tabs, notes, saved pages or a file?
  3. What does Research mode do?
  4. Where is an attached document read?
