What does Minda send off my computer?

Question Answered #privacy #security

I care about privacy. What does Minda itself send over the network, and can I check it?

Accepted answer

Minda keeps a written privacy audit of its own network traffic, feature by feature, and a short version in the app: Settings → About → What leaves this computer. The sites you open still see what any browser shows them.

In the background

  • Filter and warning lists are downloaded. No page address goes with them.
  • Your account refreshes about hourly while you are signed in.
  • The update check sends the version, release channel, system, processor and package type. It sends no cookie, account or token.
  • Search suggestions send the words you type in the address bar to your search engine, never from a private window. You can turn them off.

Only when you use a feature

  • AI chat goes to the provider you picked, or to Minda AI.
  • Sync sends your items sealed. The server still sees how many items you sync, their sizes and when they change.
  • Feedback is sent only when you press Send, and you see the whole report first.

Controls

  • Keep AI on this computer refuses every cloud AI provider. A local model in Ollama still works.
  • AI activity lists each model request without the words.
  • Temporary chats are never saved, and private windows keep nothing.

Limits, stated plainly

With sync's default key, Minda's server can read what you sync. Set your own passphrase and it cannot. Hide my IP covers browsing only.

Please do not read this as "nothing leaves your computer". The audit shows exactly what does.
